Hi, I’m Claire.

It’s a joy to have you here. I come from a long line of masterful backyard gardeners and deep love for flower arranging. I remember my dad’s garden as a young girl, his amazing pickled cucumbers in the summer, pumpkins in the fall from his daddy’s seeds, and the compost bin on the counter where he insisted that we return our scraps back to the earth. To this day, he is the greatest gardener I know. As an adult, I spent years living in South America, and I grew to really appreciate the magic of nature and the way that plants work together to thrive. I experienced first hand the importance of eating seasonally and organically, as the quickest access to food was fresh farmers markets with out-of-this-world produce.

It wasn’t until I became a mother that we actually started our very own garden. My daughter Millie was interested in plants from a very early age. She and her brother Jack loved planting seeds, going on nature walks and strolls through a local community garden, always mesmerized at all of God’s beauty growing for us to enjoy. Our mind’s booming with questions and excitement, I can hear her squeals now. We decided to grow a little tomato patch in our backyard which felt like the most magical thing we had ever done - running out in the mornings to check on them, watering them, waiting for them to do anything!

Just days after we planted our first tomato patch, our entire world changed. My daughter Millie was diagnosed with childhood cancer, and we jumped immediately into an aggressive battled against it. Our tomato patch became a moment of joy for us in our backyard. In fact, I’ll never forget coming home from the hospital from the first round of chemotherapy to find that our first tomatoes had ripened while we were gone for the weekend. It was just the spark we needed to come home to.

Not long afterwards, my parents gave Millie her own beautiful, custom raised bed garden for her to grow even more! My dad built the garden bed and my mom painted the most beautiful rainbow headboard for it, my daughter’s favorite. We quickly filled the bed with lots of yummy plants, and our gardening journey took on a whole new meaning. Organic, nourishing foods had become an important part of our treatment plan. She and Jack loved tending to it together, and it became such a safe and nourishing activity for our family.

My daughter passed away suddenly in February 2021, and the garden quickly became my safe place. A place to find my breath, a place to feel the dirt, a place to learn, a place grow new life with my own tears. It has saved me in so many ways. Our backyard garden has grown, and we have learned so much by growing year-round in our community garden.

It brings me so much joy to share the love of the garden with others. I believe that the garden has something for everyone, no matter your age, on both the good days and the darkest. I believe in working with nature to maximize your growing space for both beauty and production. I’ve had the true honor to design and create many kitchen gardens for families around metro Atlanta. Each project is so unique to the grower, and I am honored to play a small part in it. I would love to help you bring the garden to your home, too. It all starts with a conversation. Reach out today!
